america reads the bible: a return to god’s word
by abby Ralph
Last week, Christians Engaged hosted the largest Bible-reading event in our nation’s history. From Genesis to Revelation, 500 leaders from across the country read from the Word of God. From all spheres of influence - government leaders, ministry leaders, actors, and media personalities from all denominations came together to speak the Word of God over our nation.
Our team at 1630, Christians Engaged, and Family Policy Alliance have worked tirelessly for months to make this event possible. Now that it’s over and testimonies are pouring in, it is clear God had His hand over this project from day one.
What I love about this event is that there was nothing flashy about it. We didn’t try to make the Bible “more interesting” or create a show with fog and lights. It was simply people from all over America coming together and reading the Word of God as He breathed out. We don’t need to try to get people more interested in Christianity by putting on a show. What people truly need are God’s own words. His words speak life.
We planned this event ahead of America’s 250th birthday - what better way to encourage our nation to repent than by reading the entirety of the Bible? 250 years ago, our founding fathers built this nation on biblical principles. Many today argue that our founding fathers were not Christians, but that is far from the truth. I encourage you to listen to my interview with Tim Barton at WallBuilders on The 1630 Show - there is no doubt of the faith held by those who began the United States of America.
Ahead of our 250th birthday, it is not only a time to reflect on our history, but to look to the future. Over the course of the last 250 years, we have slowly moved away from those biblical principles. What will the next 250 years of America look like? America today is at a crossroads - will we continue to drift from God, or will we repent and once again look to our creator in all things?
This summer, my husband and I are expecting our firstborn, a son. His due date is close to July 4, so we are hoping he’ll be born on the 250th! Stepping into motherhood, I am even more aware of what is at stake. The future generations are depending on us to set the tone for the next 250 years. We get to decide what kind of nation they will live in.
My prayer is that we will turn to Christ and live our lives based on the Word of God. May we once again embrace the motto “In God We Trust”!
